Flying Carp Productions is a San Francisco based production company, which combines award winning documentary film and advertising experience, to create media that inspires and educates.
A symbol of strength, courage and ambition in Japan, “Flying Carp” derives from Children’s Day, and the tale of a carp that swims upstream to heaven, and becomes a magnificent dragon.

yurikoYuriko Gamo Romer founded Flying Carp in 1999, and serves as producer-director. She is currently in development/production for her new film, Be Strong, Be Gentle, Be Beautiful about the inspirational life and career of 96-year old, woman, judo master Keiko Fukuda.  Her film Occidental Encounters aired on PBS and won a Student Academy Award, The Jimmy Stewart Memorial Crystal Heart Award, and The Silver Apple, among others.  Yuriko directed, produced and edited, Dancing with God. She co-directed and co-produced Virtuoso: The Life and Times of Olga Samaroff Stokowski. She also worked as an editor for On Common Ground: the life of Howard Thurman.  Other filmmaking credits include; Reflection, Kids will be Kids, Sunnyside of the Slope, and Fusion.  Yuriko is a graduate of Stanford University’s Masters program in documentary filmmaking.

Prior to making documentary films, Yuriko spent ten years as an advertising art director and graphic designer.  She has a BFA in Art and Design from UCLA. Her artistic interests go back to early childhood, when she first discovered painting, ceramics and sculpture.
